Quirky Cult Comedy Film "Freedom State" Debuts on Hulu.com

The "quirky cult feature comedy film Freedom State," shot in Oregon and SW Washington is now among fewer than 250 feature films available for streaming on the hugely popular web site HULU.com.

This high-concept comedy centers on the exploits of eight mental hospital patients who awaken to discover that they've just slept through the apocalypse. Determined to find the edge of the world, the former residents of Lost Acres load into a short, yellow bus and embark upon a cross-country journey to rescue potential survivors and plant the seeds for a new society, fashioned to their liking.

The film received high praise from Cinequest's screening committee:

"Director Cullen Hoback's Freedom State asks whether a spontaneous, out-of-the-ordinary life is truly more insane than a passionless and predictable one. . .Hoback's film takes us on an adventure where fantasy is both a refuge from the mundane and a pathway to meaning. A delightfully quirky comedy, Freedom State is a love letter to the imagination and a love story of the most eccentric sort."

Science Uncovers Ancient Hidden Powers

Ancient claims of soldiers acquiring increased mental acuity, response time, and strength have been verified by retired scientist Robert L. Peck using his translations of ancient documents and modern scientific knowledge. Peck notes how history records the source of the superior warrior's inner power as being a mystical elixir known variously as chi, ki, haoma, soma, amrita, ambrosia, living waters, etc. For millennia this transformational fluid has been assumed to be some unknown intoxicating or psychedelic drink or, more recently, pure myth.

Discover the ancient method of hormone control.

Peck's breakthrough was his realization that this ancient elixir is the same as today's hormones. The elixir consists of self-generated steroid hormones followed by neuropeptide hormones. "Knowing the effects of the hormones and a few of the inner methods of stimulating their production, Peck was able to decode ancient writings describing strange methods for generating the elixir." Coding of the instructions was obviously necessary to keep the information out of the hands of one's enemies and gave the impression that the elixir was an intoxicant drunk during a secret ritual. Secrecy prevailed even as the method was introduced into the civilian world by religious or early marital arts groups. These groups were heavily persecuted and largely disappeared during the 5th century, and their secret knowledge of controlling inner metaphysical powers was suppressed by rising institutions.

The Fresno Film Festival will screen the much anticipated short film "The Crooked Eye" on April 19th at 4:30 in the Tower Theatre. The film stars Fay Masterson ("A Christmas Carol" with Jim Carrey), Katherine Boecher ("Heroes" on NBC) and narrated by Academy Award winner Linda Hunt.

The local buzz surrounding "The Crooked Eye" has to do with it's writer and the journey from the page to the screen.

In 1995, Betty Malicoat's short story "The Crooked eye" was published in the San Joaquin Journal, Spring Edition - a publication put out by Fresno State University. Betty went on to open a spiritual and creative workshop called The Lotus Path in Coarsegold, just outside of Oakhurst and Yosemite.

Actress Christa Campbell is taking a step in a new direction: trading fangs for fast-paced action. The horror film queen, known for her roles in films like 2001 Maniacs, Day of the Dead, and Wickerman, is starring in Lies and Illusions, a film about a novelist being hunted by a spy who believes he holds millions of dollars in diamonds, stolen by the novelist's dead fiancée. Campbell stars opposite of Christian Slater (novelist) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (spy).

Lies and Illusions, directed by Tibor Takács, depicts the story of Wes Wilson, an award-winning novelist whose fiancée, Samantha, is abducted by spies. After the abduction, Wes finds that Samantha's life was not what it appeared to be, that she was a spy herself, and was believed to be in possession of millions of dollars worth of stolen diamonds. Campbell plays Nicole Williams, Wilson's new love interest, who turns out to be in on the entire scheme. The rest of the story will unfold when the movie is released in December of this year, and Campbell is excited to be a part of the action-packed thriller.
